The worst time to discover a dry gearbox, tired PTO shaft or mystery shear bolt is when the yard is already white. A quick fall inspection can save you from a very long repair session at -4°F. It is October 1. Leaves are dropping, fall jobs are piling up and, in a lot of machine sheds, the snowblower is still parked exactly where it was left last spring. Perfect. Because the best time to discover a leaking gearbox, noisy bearing or loose PTO shaft is now — not at 5:40 in the morning with a foot of snow sitting in front of the shop door.
